WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're hiring 1-2 freelance writers who can contribute at least one article a week to our content calendar by:
- Taking a data and research-driven approach to writing about topics that will appeal to our audience and community.
- Crafting compelling stories from our community members.
- Creating practical, honest articles that help MESHERS put money in their pockets - not clickbait fluff.
- Answering common questions from our community and the web.
- Collaborating with our in-house brand team and contributor creators to develop unique content that speaks directly to our audience.
You'll be responsible for:
- Writing 800-1,500 word blog posts on various topics.
- Conducting online research to ensure accuracy and provide practical, actionable advice.
- Attending live (online/offline) events to gather tips and tricks from MESHERS and turn them into engaging articles.
- Adapting your writing style to match our brand voice: casual, honest, and relatable.
- Work with our editorial team to refine ideas and polish your content.
- Meet deadlines and respond promptly to feedback.
- Following SEO best practices without sacrificing quality content to appease search algorithms.
This position will be fully remote, with the option to visit our office occasionally for team get-togethers, workshops, and career development days.
REQUIREMENTS
- Able to blend excellent English writing skills with “Kenyanese” slang and phrases.
- Basic understanding of SEO writing tactics.
- Ability to research topics thoroughly from online sources and our internal research reports
- Familiarity with the Kenyan informal economy and youth culture.
- A detail-oriented personality with a positive attitude.
- Experience working with ClickUp or similar project management tools.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects daily.
- Reliable internet connectivity.
- Produce original content without relying on ChatGPT.
